The Importance of PRIDE

Written by Liz & Onyx

Throughout the month of June, communities in the U.S. and many other nations hold events celebrating lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender identities, often collectively known as Gay Pride or LGBTQPride.
Gay Pride celebrations are usually a series of events culminating in a parade of colorful floats with participants from both the LGBTQ community and supporters. Gay Pride initially commemorated the Stonewall Riots, which resulted from a police raid on the Stonewall Inn in New York City’s Greenwich Village. It has since grown to events welcoming several hundred thousand participants across multiple countries, including cities where the celebrations face local resistance.

There are many people who become irate, angry, offended, and disgusted when some individuals share their Sexual Identity or Live their non-herterosexual Life Out Loud. There are many individuals that wish the LGBTQQIP2SA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, Pansexual, Two-Spirited, and Asexual + because there are MORE!) to stay in the closet or not exist at all. We call these people bigots.

BIGOT [as defined by Mariam Webster] : a person who is obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices

especially  : one who regards or treats the members of a group (such as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance

Here at Eve’s Garden, as individuals and as a company, we support PRIDE! Pride itself is a protest. An uprising and rebellion against those that wish harm and wish human rights to be removed [or not given] to those who do not present as or live as heterosexual. PRIDE is an answer and celebration of the individuals who are free and unafraid to live as themselves. Loud and proud!

To be Queer or Questioning is not an odd act. We as humans have free will to explore and experience the entire spectrum of our Lives. And this includes our Sexuallity. Sexuality is not bound to the vessel we live in. Your Sexuality is not bound to your reproductive system or “the nuclear family”. Heck, your sexuality does not even have to involve the act of Sex! (SHOCKER!)

The Importance of Pride: to remember that non-heterosexual individuals have always existed and will always deserve equal rights. It is good to fight for humanity! It is good to celebrate equality! And it is good to celebrate what makes us different!

Happy Pride Month! 🏳️‍🌈❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🖤🤎
